I teach across computer science, software engineering, digital media and literacy in Aotearoa New Zealand. I design learning around things students can explore, make and explain, with room for different starting points and ways to participate.
My teaching philosophy
Each learner brings a different starting point and horizon. I think of the classroom as a shared vessel: a place of belonging, with the structure and flexibility to help each person chart their own course.
The structure beneath the journey
Clear planning, achievable steps and meaningful skills help learners understand their own “why”, recognise progress and choose what comes next.
The people aboard
Learning involves the whole person. Respectful relationships make room for emotions, wellbeing and lived experience, alongside intellectual growth.
The identities we bring
Culture belongs in everyday learning. I value Te Tiriti o Waitangi partnership, whānau and the diverse identities learners bring, wherever they are on their cultural journey.
Infinite Teaching Philosophies
My Journey Facilitator framework draws a connection with Stella’s changing boat in Spiritfarer: the learning environment adapts to the people aboard. Learners need different forms of support, and their journeys continue beyond the classroom.
The three approaches work together—structure supports the human and cultural dimensions of learning, making space for agency and individual aspirations.
